I know what some of you might be saying. Another book turned into a movie? Why does Hollywood seem to continue on this path of adapting books instead of using original material? Well, let’s just look at this in a positive light, shall we? Although books-turned-movies often end up being lesser versions of the books, my curiosity for Stephenie Meyer’s “The Host” getting the silver screen treatment outweighs any skepticism I may have. Here are three reasons why I’m looking forward to seeing it happen:
The Casting
The actors cast so far are Saoirse Ronan who snagged the role of Melanie Stryder/Wanda, Max Irons for the role of Jared Howe and Jake Abel for Ian. But who will be cast as Uncle Jeb, the “crazy” old man who was one of the first humans to suspect aliens were invading the planet? And how about the Seeker, one of the alien invaders, whose abrasive personality terrified Wanda and Melanie? It’ll be fun to see the final choices so we can all hem and haw over the ones we think are absolutely ridiculous and then hopefully get proven wrong once the movie hits the theaters.
The Caves
One thing Stephenie Meyer loves to do in her books is describe in detail the environment in which the characters are living. The elaborate and complex underground world she conceived seems fascinating, and it would make for great cinematography.
The Complexity of Two Souls in One Body
What my inquiring mind most wants to know is how two people in one body will be portrayed onscreen. How will the inner dialogue between Wanda and Melanie play out? Since I’m not too familiar with Saoirse Ronan, I’m eager to see how she takes on the dual roles and hope that she doesn’t end up looking like a crazy person.
So, while there’s sure to be bits of news along the way, we have to wait until March 29, 2013 to see the final product in the theaters. Until then, please share below what you are most looking forward to seeing happen with this story.
