Renee Dwyer
WHO: Renée Dwyer is Bella’s free-spirited mother, and in Bella’s words, she’s eccentric, forgetful and very perceptive. She’s also adventurous in her cooking, not necessarily in a gourmet kind of way, which explains why Bella learned to cook for herself early on. Renée was married very briefly to Charlie Swan and they divorced months after Bella was born. Now she’s married to Phil Dwyer, a minor league baseball player.
BELLA’S REASON: Renée and Bella lived in Phoenix, AZ for several years before she met and fell in love with Phil. Phil’s baseball career forced him to travel so Renée didn’t see him as much as she would’ve liked. Bella realized this and ended up sacrificing her own happiness for her mom’s by moving to Forks to live with her dad, Charlie…all so Renée could be free to travel with Phil. Eventually Renée and Phil end up in Jacksonville, FL, and at one point in the Twilight series, she asks Bella to live with them there, which obviously wasn’t going to happen.
FAR, BUT NOT FORGOTTEN: Renée seemed a little oblivious to the situation in Forks since she was really wrapped up in her new life with Phil. Well, that and the fact that Bella and Charlie would both try to hide things from her that would make her worry too much. But despite Renée being so far from Forks, it’s clear she really cares for Bella and would often get mad when Bella didn’t keep in touch regularly.
