Didyme
WHO: A former member of the Volturi, Didyme was Aro’s sister and Marcus’s mate.
She was born a few years after Aro and only enjoyed a short life as a human. When she became an adult, Aro gave her the gift of immortality by turning her into a vampire.
IT’S GOOD TO BE POPULAR?: Aro’s sole purpose for turning his sister was he had hoped that she would develop special powers like his. After all, another vampire with similar abilities would surely make the Volturi more formidable. Unfortunately for him, she developed the power to make others happy when they come near her aura.
This also had a secondary, unintentional effect; Didyme became very popular and well-liked. It was only natural that she had numerous admirers and many fell in love with her. However, she didn’t love anyone back for a long time until she met Marcus.
‘TIL DEATH DUE US PART: Marcus and Didyme fell madly in love that they didn’t care so much about the Volturi and Aro’s plans. They wanted to go their separate ways to experience their own happiness together.
With Aro’s ability to read minds, he could see this coming a mile away. He couldn’t let this happen because Marcus was a valuable member of the Volturi. He would do anything to keep Marcus, include killing his own family. When they asked to leave, Aro pretended to be happy for them and gave his approval. He then waited for the right moment to strike and then took his sister’s life. To this day, Marcus still doesn’t know how the love of his life was murdered.
