Caius

CaiusWHO: Caius is one of the three elder leaders of the Volturi, ruling alongside with Aro and Marcus. He is described as having very pale and onion-like translucent skin, a trait that seems common in most of the elder vampires. Opposite of Aro’s black locks, Caius has long flowing white hair down to his shoulders.

Caius was born around 1000 BC but little is known about his early life or transformation to vampire. It is only known that he joined the Volturi soon after his change and it is there that he met his future wife Athenodora, when she later joined.

BIG BOSS MATERIAL? Given the fact that Aro and Marcus have special abilities, you would think this is important to qualify for a leader spot in the Volturi. However, Caius doesn’t have a special ability or he is not known to have one. One could speculate perhaps his power-hungry personality and same domineering view points as Aro allowed him to join their inner circle.

ALWAYS IN A BAD MOOD: Caius is the meanest and most sadistic of the three leaders. He radiates negative energy and cruelty in his persona. This is demonstrated when Bella paid a visit to Volterra to save Edward. He did not want the human Bella leaving alive because he thought it a threat that the secret world of the Volturi would be exposed. But Aro convinced Caius to let them go when he told of his plans of persuading the Cullens to join their coven and Edward’s plans for changing Bella. Of course Caius was disappointed; he still would rather see Bella killed.

Another example of his cruel personality is shown in Breaking Dawn, when the Volturi came to wipe out the Cullen clan for creating an immortal child, one of the biggest no-no’s in Volturi law. When Aro deemed the child not a threat, Caius with his “no mercy” attitude, was frustrated. He would rather choose war over peace and was constantly trying to instigate a fight during the encounter.

ALWAYS PACKS A SILVER BULLET: It’s no secret that Caius has a hatred for werewolves. That’s because some 2000 years ago, he almost died by the hands (er, claws?) of one. For this reason, he went on an extermination mission to hunt and kill werewolves.

When he met the shape shifters of La Push, this must have rekindled fond memories for Caius. Although Edward explained that Jacob’s pack were shape shifters and not the same werewolf breed that Caius encountered from the past, it had to be pretty darn close. Maybe even worse since the kids from La Push are as big as bears!
