Aro
WHO: Aro is the founder and one of the three leaders of the Volturi, the largest and most organized vampire coven in the Twilight series. Although he rules alongside with Marcus and Caius, he is seen as the main leader and spokesperson. He is described as having long black hair and translucent skin. Also when he walks or moves, you could swear he’s floating in air.
SPLIT PERSONALITY: Like a good leader figure, Aro conducts himself like royalty: he’s pleasant, proper, and mild-mannered even in the tensest situations. But behind the mask he is cunning and power hungry- always looking out for his own agenda. With domination on his mind, he is constantly scheming to expand his power by recruiting more gifted vampires.
THE BONE COLLECTOR?: Aro enjoys collecting things such as jewels, gems, and other treasures. However, the most coveted of all his “collections” lies within his personal guard, Jane and Alec. Together they form two of the most powerfully gifted vampires in the Volturi. Aro’s habit of collecting things is the reason why the Volturi are the most powerful vampire coven in the world.
CAN’T TOUCH THIS: If you let Aro touch you, he has the ability to read every thought that you ever had. Pretty amazing for a life time of memories to be read in one single touch. This was demonstrated throughout the Twilight series with the Cullen’s encounters with the Volturi.
FAMILY MATTERS: Another example of Aro’s thirst for power can be seen in his early life when he changed his sister Didyme into a vampire. His hope was that she would develop powers like his. Instead he got something completely useless to him; she developed the ability to make people happy.
To make matters worse, Marcus fell in love with Didyme. They had plans to leave because they didn’t agree with Aro’s plans for the Volturi. To prevent the defection, Aro ended up killing Didyme, his own sister! Marcus, on the other hand, was too essential to his plans so he couldn’t afford to lose him. He made Chelsea (another gifted vampire) use her powers to break Marcus’s bond with Didyme and remain loyal to the Volturi.
